As a Clean Energy Solutions Provider for regional markets and industries, both nationally and internationally, we always keep an eye on the entire Renewable Energies and electricity refinement value chain. In addition to wind energy, the company's portfolio includes photovoltaics, battery storage and power-to-X technology with a focus on hydrogen. We utilise our knowledge gained from our global projects in order to generate energy at a local level in the most efficient and socially sustainable way.

Growth through an integrated business model.

With our segments of project development, power generation and services, we cover the entire Renewable Energies value chain. Through the integrated business model, the business segments can benefit from each other, generate synergies and thus offer significant growth potential for the whole enterprise.

In the project development segment, we have access to projects from the first project phase onwards and can build up our own generation portfolio independently of the market without having to buy in projects at high cost. With our own plant operations, we generate stable cash flows over the entire life cycle of the wind farms and PV systems. Our comprehensive service offer for all phases of the value chain keeps us involved after the sale of the projects and enables us to gain access to new projects through repowering.

The history of PNE.

Company founded

The foundation stone of our corporate history was laid in Cuxhaven with the establishment of "Windpark Marschland GmbH". 

Our first wind farm

Two years later, we proudly completed our first wind farm in Nordleda.

Stock market flotation

The company went public under the name "Plambeck Neue Energien AG". The initials PNE are still used in our company name.

100 MW wind power

We reached the first major milestone by exceeding 100 MW of installed nominal capacity from wind energy.

Growing strongly

Wind farms at sea are important mainstays of the energy revolution. In 2004, we obtained the building permit for our first offshore project, "Borkum Riffgrund I". This wind farm now feeds electricity into the German grid.

500 MW wind power

We exceeded 500 MW of installed nominal capacity from wind energy, thus passing another milestone in our corporate history. Another sensational success was achieved the same year with the issue of a building permit for the offshore project "Gode Wind I".

Globalisation begins

Plambeck Neue Energien AG's international growth took shape with the establishment of the first joint ventures in Hungary, Belgium and Turkey.

Globalisation progresses

The company focused firmly on its core business of wind farm project planning. Its international activities were also purposefully expanded with the establishment of branches in the UK, Romania and the USA.


The company was renamed "PNE WIND AG". Our offshore business segment got better and better; we obtained a building permit for the offshore project "Gode Wind II".

Gode Wind II ready to construct

The offshore wind farm "Gode Wind II", the planning of which is our responsibility, was made ready for construction.

Strong partner in Scotland

The Forestry Commission Scotland (FCS) selects PNE WIND AG as its partner for the development of a wind farm in central Scotland. In addition, the offshore project "Nautilus II" was sold.

Gode Wind I-III

The offshore wind farm projects "Gode Wind" I to III were sold to the Danish energy group DONG Energy.


The majority shares in WKN AG, which was established in Husum in 1990, were transferred to PNE WIND AG. WKN AG is still an independent brand consolidated into the PNE WIND Group. That same year, PNE WIND AG's 100th wind farm project was completed and the offshore sector was further expanded through the acquisition of the three projects "Atlantis" I-III.

2,000 MW nominal output

The PNE WIND Group reached the benchmark of 2,000 MW of installed nominal wind power capacity in 2014.

UK project pipeline

PNE WIND sold its entire project pipeline in the United Kingdom, thereby completing the largest transaction since the sale of the "Gode Wind" offshore projects. In Hesse, we inaugurated our first wind hiking trail, which invites people to recharge their batteries and learn more about the power of wind during a walk.

Sale of a wind farm portfolio

The PNE WIND Group started to successively bundle completed wind farms into a portfolio. In December, this wind farm portfolio of 142 MW was sold to a subsidiary of Allianz Global Investors. A strategy that was unique in the German wind industry until then. PNE WIND holds 20 percent of the shares in the portfolio and is responsible for operational management.

Strategy expanded

We started the construction of a new, this time European, wind farm portfolio. The offshore wind farm "Gode Wind 3" developed and sold by us was awarded a contract in the first German tender for offshore wind farms. Another offshore project is being sold. 

With "Scale Up", PNE starts a comprehensive realignment of the corporate strategy and begins to develop into a clean energy solutions provider. 


The company was renamed "PNE AG", as our business now encompassed more than just wind power. "Scale Up" bore first fruit - for example through the service sector expansion. 

3,000 MW nominal output

Operationally, the PNE Group was successful in various markets, including Sweden and Poland. We exceeded the threshold of 3,000 MW of installed nominal capacity.

Significant operational progress

In spite of the effects of COVID-19, operations progressed well. PNE completed, sold or started the construction of wind farms with more than 461.2 MW. The PV pipeline more than quadrupled to 548 MWp within one year.

Record output of >1 GW

The PNE Group completed, sold or started construction of wind farm and photovoltaic projects with approx. 1,076.1 MW/MWp. This more than doubled the value compared to the previous year and set a new record in the company's history.

Promotion to the SDAX

In mid-June, the PNE share was admitted to the SDAX. With a price increase of 152 percent since the start of the year, it reached the best value in the whole of the DAX. Moreover PNE set the course for additional growth with the further development of the corporate strategy Scale Up 2.0. The core objectives of the strategy are to expand our own operations portfolio for power generation, increase the project pipeline and promote the service business.

PNE currently operates in 15 countries in Europe, South Africa, North America and Asia. Around 600 employees work together every day to implement global renewable energy solutions. All employees of the PNE Group share the same vision, regardless of language, culture or place of origin: a 100 percent renewable energy supply. The PNE and WKN brands have been united under PNE since 2013. WKN GmbH has been a wholly owned subsidiary of PNE AG since July 2018. WKN, based in Husum, has been one of the leading project developers in the field of onshore wind energy in Germany, Europe and South Africa for over 30 years. The range of services extends from site development, planning and financing as well as construction and operations to technical and commercial management. As such, it covers all phases of project planning and wind farm operations.

The PNE subsidiary energy consult GmbH, based in Cuxhaven and at the Husum site, has been one of the leading operations managers in the wind energy sector for over 30 years and is active in 6 countries in Europe. In recent years, energy consult has successfully evolved from a technical operations manager to a Life Cycle Services Provider. As aLife Cycle Services Provider, the company offers all services from a single source. In addition to wind farm management, energy consult offers further services in the life cycle of a wind farm or PV power plant.

BGZ Fondsverwaltung GmbH

BGZ Fondsverwaltung GmbH, based in Husum, has been successfully operating as a commercial service provider for operating companies in the renewable energy sector since 1998. Our colleagues at BGZ take care of all matters relating to the energy farms entrusted to you throughout the entire service life of the installations. BGZ has its sights set on one thing in particular: Representing the owners' and the limited partners' interests. 

MEB Safety Services GmbH

MEB, based in Bremen, has been part of the PNE Group since 2018 and is a service provider in the field of service, maintenance and testing of operating equipment (fall protection, standard PPE sets, hoists, winches and access equipment). Moreover, the offer includes different training sessions for professionals with elevated workplaces. MEB also provides installation, maintenance and services relating to fire extinguishing, fire detection and obstruction lighting systems.
