Profile

Who we are

The PNE Group operates internationally and is one of the most experienced project developers of onshore and offshore wind farms. Based on this success, the Group has developed to a “clean energy solutions provider”.

In addition to wind energy, the Company’s offer includes photovoltaic, electricity storage and power-to-X technologies with a focus on hydrogen. PNE's strategic orientation covers the entire value chain of renewable energies as well as the refinement of electricity. This expansion of our business fields is also accompanied by a regional expansion of our activities in Latin America, Africa and Asia.

Our range of services covers all phases of project planning and operation of renewable energy projects, from the initial site investigation and implementation of the approval process, through financing and turnkey construction, to operation and repowering at the end of the project's life. In addition, we offer solutions and services for all phases of the value chain.

PNE combines economic success with ecological responsibility. The more than 500 employees of the PNE Group work with great passion every day to get closer to the vision of a one hundred percent energy supply from renewable energies. For clean, sustainable energy generation - now and in the future.

Our strategy
We develop solutions for clean energy

The PNE Group offers services covering the entire value chain ranging from the development, planning, realisation, financing, operations and sales to re-powering of on-shore wind farms in Germany and abroad. The offshore wind farms at sea are developed up to the point where they are ready to be constructed. It is important to us to realise our projects in close collaboration with all parties involved. From initial surveys through to wind farm operation, we agree every step with local citizens, authorities, politicians, municipal authorities and investors.

The PNE Group currently operates in Europe, South Africa and North America. This broad and flexible structure makes the group of companies more independent of potential fluctuations in individual markets and business areas. For this reason, we also plan to extend our commercial activities to other technologies and markets, including but not limited to, developing countries with a high energy demand.

Essential factors for the entry into new markets include secure, calculable framework conditions and co-operation with local partners who have an extensive network at their disposal.

The PNE Group has been successfully operating on the wind power market since 1990. In doing so, we make an effective contribution to climate protection and work on developing a future-oriented technology.

On this solid basis, the Company has developed to a “clean energy solutions provider” with regard to renewable energy from different renewable energy sources.

Apart from wind energy, the strategic orientation of the PNE Group will include photovoltaics as well as energy storage and power-to-X technologies with a focus on hydrogen.

Corporate history
A short journey through the history of the PNE Group
1995
Company founded

The foundation stone of our corporate history was laid in Cuxhaven in 1995 with the establishment of "Windpark Marschland GmbH".

1997
Our first wind farm

Two years later, in 1997, we proudly completed our first wind farm in Nordleda.

1998
Stock market flotation

In 1998, the company was floated on the stock market under the name "Plambeck Neue Energien AG". The initials PNE are still used in our company name.

2000
100 MW wind power

We passed the first major milestone in 2000 on exceeding 100 MW of installed nominal capacity from wind energy.

2004
Growing strongly

Wind farms at sea are an important mainstay of the energy revolution. In 2004, we obtained a building permit for our first offshore project, "Borkum Riffgrund I". This wind farm now feeds electricity into the German network. Image source: DONG Energy

2006
500 MW Windenergie

2007
Globalisation begins

In 2007, the international growth takes shape with the establishment of the first joint ventures in Hungary, Belgium and Turkey.

2008
Globalisation progresses

From 2008, the company focuses firmly on its core business of wind farm project planning. Its international activities are also purposefully expanded with the establishment of branches in the UK, Romania and the USA.

2009
PNE WIND AG

In 2009, the company was renamed "PNE WIND AG". Our offshore business segment is getting better and better; we obtain a building permit for the project "Gode Wind II".

2010
Gode Wind II ready to construct

The offshore wind farm "Gode Wind II", the planning of which is our responsibility, is made ready for construction.

2011
Strong partner in Scotland

The Forestry Commission Scotland (FCS) selects PNE WIND AG as its partner for the development of a wind farm in central Scotland. The offshore project "Nautilus I" is sold.

2012
Gode Wind I-III

The offshore wind farm projects "Gode Wind" I to III are sold to the Danish energy concern DONG Energy.

2013
PNE WIND-Gruppe

Mid-2013, the majority shares in WKN AG, which was founded in 1990 in Husum, were acquired by PNE WIND AG. WKN AG is still an independent brand consolidated into the PNE WIND Group. That same year, PNE AG's 100th wind farm is planned successfully and the offshore segment was expanded by the acquisition of the three projects "Atlantis" I-III.

2014
2,000 MW nominal output

In 2014, the PNE WIND Group reaches the goal of 2,000 MW installed nominal capacity for wind energy, and is now one of the leading, most successful wind power planners.

2015
UK project pipeline

PNE WIND sells its project pipeline in the UK, closing the largest transaction since the sale of the "Gode Wind" offshore projects. In Hesse, we set up our first wind energy trail, inviting people to recharge energy during a walk and learn more about the power of the wind.

2016
Sale of the wind farm portfolio

Since 2014, PNE began to successfully bundle completed wind farms in a portfolio. In December 2016, this wind farm portfolio of 142 MW was sold to a subsidiary of Allianz Global Investors. A strategy which until then was unique in the German wind industry.

2017
Strategy expanded

The construction of a new, this time European, wind farm portfolio will begin. The offshore wind farm "Gode Wind 3" developed and sold by us was awarded a contract in the first German tender for offshore wind farms. Another offshore project is being sold. The future expanded strategy is put into concrete terms - PNE develops into a "Clean Solution Provider".

2018
PNE AG

In 2018, the company was renamed "PNE AG". Our scale-up expansion concept was also beginning to bear fruit - for example by expanding the service sector. In addition, projects with a capacity of 235.7 MW were completed, under construction or sold.

2019
3,000 MW Nominal Output

Operationally, the PNE Group has been successful in various markets including Sweden and Poland in 2019. Strategically, we have consistently developed further in line with the "Scale up" concept and also exceeded the 3,000 MW of installed nominal capacity.

2020
Significant operational progress

Despite the effects of COVID-19, there was good operational progress in fiscal year 2020. In total, PNE completed, sold or started construction of projects with a capacity of approx. 461.2 MW in the reporting period. Our PV pipeline also greatly expanded within one year to 548 MWp (2019: 123 MWp).

2021
RECORD OUTPUT OF >1 GW

In fiscal 2021, the PNE Group completed, sold or started construction of wind farm and photovoltaic projects with approx. 1,076.1 MW/MWp. This figure was thus more than double that of the previous year, and an unprecedented level in the Company’s history was achieved.

2022
Promotion to the SDAX

In mid-June, the PNE share was admitted to the SDAX and, with a price increase of 152 percent since the beginning of the year, developed into the best value in the entire DAX.

In addition, PNE continued to set the course for growth with the further development of the corporate strategy Scale up 2.0. The core objectives of the strategy are the expansion of the own-operations portfolio, the enlargement of the project pipeline and the increase of the O&M commitment.
